Maternity Photo Session

Why Every Pregnant Woman Should Have Maternity Photos Taken

I was only 29 weeks pregnant when I had my first child. I didn't get the chance to have a third trimester or even get maternity photos done. I truly mourned the fact that I didn't have better photos of me pregnant with my first. Now that I am pregnant with my second, I was determined that I would make it happen this time. With a close watch from my doctor and quite a bit more knowledge going into this pregnancy compared to the last one, I have made it to 30 weeks.

In my 29th week, Melanie Lee Photography graciously photographed me in the dreamiest most joyful maternity session ever. Granted, I have nothing to compare it to, but I had the BEST time with her and I can't imagine it getting any better than that!

I had been looking forward to this maternity session my entire pregnancy. Almost a pot of gold at the end of a second trimester rainbow to commemorate the fact that I made it past the point of the premature delivery of my first child. You see, the option of even getting maternity photos was ripped away from me in an instant. The beautiful, large, pregnant glowing belly that I had dreamed about for six months was suddenly no longer an option. Sitting at a baby shower with everyone guessing how big around the belly is or simply taking photos with my friends touching my belly wouldn't be happening for me.

This pregnancy is my redemption story. These photos are my chance at redeeming what was lost. Even if I only get to experience one third trimester in my life, I am going to do everything I can to commemorate this beautiful miracle inside of me.

Here are a few reasons why every pregnant woman should have maternity photos taken:

You Will Only Have THIS Pregnancy ONE TIME

While you may have other children in the future, this pregnancy specifically with never be something you can experience again. I know my pregnancies are drastically different from each other. Your cravings are different, your hormones are different, your lifestyle is different (ex: no kids verses multiple kids) Your body is even different. Every pregnancy is carried differently. You'll regret it if you don't have some sort of photos to look back on. If only I had photos from that first pregnancy....

You Are Creating Life... THAT IS A BIG DEAL

Think about it... all great life milestones include photos. When you are first born, someone snaps your picture. On your first day of school... picture. When you are a senior in high school, you get your photos taken in your cap and gown. When you get engaged... photos. When you get married... photos. So why not get photos of this big milestone in your life? It is a memory, an important, unrepeatable memory to be pregnant right now at this time in your life. This is a major life moment and this memory deserves to be captured.

Pregnancy Is A Privilege

Alright, so pregnancy isn't always rainbows and sunshine. Morning sickness, heartburn, hemorrhoids... its not all super enjoyable. BUT, growing human life inside of you is beautiful. The way I see it, pregnancy is a privilege.  God has blessed you with fertility. Not all women get to do this. Not all women get to be pregnant. Think about what a wonderful blessing it is to be carrying the human life that you are carrying right now. Does that not deserve to be commemorated in photograph form?

You Get To Have A Giant Belly And Everyone Cheers For You

Many women have insecurities and concerns about their appearance. One of my favorite things about being pregnant is that I can have a giant belly and no gives me the "you need to lose a few pounds" look. Instead, people get excited when they see me. Full of questions and curiosities about my bump. I don't have to worry if I 'look fat' in an outfit, I don't have to feel bad if I get a second helping of meatloaf and mashed potatoes or indulge in the occasional ice cream shake. Its all part of the pregnancy package. You have a big belly. OWN IT, QUEEN! Get that picture made!
